Gee, that didn’t take long.
Facebook have reverted their terms of service changes (temporarily, mind) while they try to draft a version that doesn’t make them sound like Big Brother.
The BBC has a reasonable summary.

nice use of “going forward” there, Mark Zuckerberg… He does sound aweful concilliatory.
He’s in a tricky spot. The technical realities of the web *require* him to be able to store, copy, distribute data… But very few of his users know enough (or care enough) to understand the intricacies involved.
He doesn’t help himself by papering over the issues (“It’s like e-mail”). His primary error was a communications failure, which is why he’s stepping back before having another go at communicating clearly.
Furthermore, Mark has every Web 2.0 wannabe breathing down his neck, just waiting for him to fail so they can take his place.
Dare Obasanjo has a very nice breakdown:

For every complicated problem, there is a simple solution, and it is wrong. E-mail is not blogging is not a wall post is not conversation about an event… People have different expectations of ownership and control around these, and a final solution will have to reflect this.
Oh, and it will have to be communicated clearly.
